Alloy 316L shows good general corrosion resistance. Its chemical resistance is similar to that of 321, but it has been created with a different scope - chromium carbide. It is resistant to both oxidation and intergranular attack and can be used in moderate-temperature, chloride-free caustic solutions. The alloy is also resistant to intergranular attack, but it is not well-suited for sulfuric acid service.
