If you need to fasten heavy materials, ASTM A307 fasteners are a great choice. The standard covers four types of fasteners: bolts, threaded rods, and studs. Each has a tensile strength in the range of 60 to 100. They are used to attach heavy materials like flanges. These fasteners are not anchor bolts.
Carbon steel bolts and fasteners are governed by ASTM A307, which covers a range of chemistry and mechanical properties. These fasteners come in Grade A and Grade B. A307 Grade C is no longer considered a suitable anchor bolt specification, as ASTM F1554 Grade 36 is a much better fit.
Both bolts have similar mechanical properties, so most ASTM A193 B5 Grade A hex bolts will not cross-certify to ASTM F1554 Grade 36. Despite the name, the specification does not specify any fastener that is not manufactured to the ASTM A325 specification. A325 bolts must be hex headed and feature a short thread length.
This is because they will not be able to project out of concrete, as required by structural connections. Therefore, engineers frequently specify A325 bolts when they need to anchor structural components.
In addition to hex nuts, ASTM A307 fasteners have a variety of different materials. Socket head bolts, for example, are commonly made from alloy steel. The alloy steel is further heat-treated. The fastener is very strong but very brittle, and zinc plating is an unnecessary step to protect it from corrosion.
When it comes to studs, ASTM A307 fasteners are made from carbon steel and are available in various sizes. They are designed for applications that require large tensile strength. If strength is an important factor, ASTM A307 fasteners are a great choice for high-strength connections. You can also choose between hex and socket head cap bolts.
